My Latest Sew-Along Has A Neat Closure! Don’t Miss My Helpful Zipper Tutorial, Too!

My first sew-along with Violette Field Threads for 2019 used the Reese Pattern, and it gave me a new opportunity to demonstrate how I use lacy zippers. Here’s how it went.

Day 1: My size 3 Reese, all cut out and ready to sew.
rease day 2
Day 2: The bodice shell and lining, front and back.

Day 3: I decided to add daisy train trim to the sleeves, and I also chose a lacy exposed zipper.
reese day 4
Day 4: The attached bodice and skirt, with some extra daisy train trim around the bodice.

Day 5: The attached zipper and the completed hem.
reese day 6 put a label on it
Day 6: Nothing says “I made this” better than my own personalized label!

Since I’ve yet to send this to the sweet 3-year-old grandniece for whom I made it, I don’t have any “strike a pose” pictures for this post. However, I hope to receive some via e-mail from her Mom and Dad that I can share with you later.

While working my way through this sew-along, I decided to make the following zipper tutorial, which I also posted on the Violette Field Threads Facebook group the day the zipper was due to be installed. I took pictures as I went, and later used Photoshop to add written instructions within the images. I used to hate sewing zippers, but since developing the method described below, zippers have been a heck of a lot easier ever since. Here’s my tutorial.picture 1picture 2picture 3picture 4picture 5picture 6picture 7

This was a fun and easy project to start the year! I look forward to seeing what’s voted in as the pattern for February’s Violette Field Threads sew-along.
